Fitting it
Can I fit it myself?
Yes. Most people fit it in about twenty minutes. Wipe the glass, press on the static sticker, stick the mount behind the mirror and click the camera on. Tuck the cable into the roof lining and down the side with the trim tool in the box, then plug it into the cigarette lighter socket. The full manual has photos of every step.
Where does the rear camera go?
Inside the car, at the top centre of the back window. The 6-metre cable runs along the roof lining to the front camera. On a hatchback or an estate, it goes through the rubber gap at the hinge of the boot lid. Nothing is fitted outside the car.
Will the 6-metre rear cable reach in my car?
In most cars up to about 4.6 metres long, yes: that covers most hatchbacks, saloons and small SUVs. For a big estate, a people carrier or a van, send us your car's make and model first.
Do I need parking mode, and how do I fit the hardwire kit?
Only if you want it to watch the car while it is parked. The hardwire kit plugs into your fuse box with fuse taps: one to a fuse that is always on, one to a fuse that is only on with the ignition, and the earth to a bare metal bolt. It takes about an hour. Any auto electrician can fit it in under an hour if you would rather not.
Does hardwiring affect my car or its warranty?
Fuse taps mean no wires are cut, and the kit comes out again in minutes. A dash cam fitted this way is not a change to the car itself. If you are unsure about your own policy, ask your insurer when you renew.
The rear picture is upside down.
Some cars need the rear camera stuck on the other way up to fit the glass. Open the menu and turn on the rear camera flip. It takes one tap.
My back window is tinted. Will the rear camera still work?
Yes. Factory privacy glass makes the night picture a little darker, but plates behind you stay readable under streetlights and headlights. If your tint is very dark aftermarket film, stick the camera on a clear part of the glass if there is one.
There is a sensor box behind my mirror. Where does it go?
Most newer cars have a rain or lane sensor there. Stick the Halden just to the passenger side of it, as high as it fits. It is 8.5 cm wide, so it still sits out of your view.
Is it legal to use a dash cam in the UK?
Yes. Dash cams are fine to use in the UK. Fit it behind the mirror so it does not block your view of the road, which is exactly where it goes.
Will it work in my van?
If your van runs on 12 V, yes. Lorries and some vans run on 24 V, and those need a 24 V to 12 V converter, or the camera will be damaged.
Using it
Will it flatten my car battery?
No. Plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, it only runs while the car is on. With the hardwire kit, it switches itself off if your car battery gets low, so there is always enough left to start the car.
Does it start recording by itself?
Yes. It starts the moment you start the car and stops when you turn it off. There is nothing to press day to day.
What happens when the SD card is full?
It records over the oldest footage, so it never stops. Any clip locked by a bump, or by you pressing the lock button, is kept and never recorded over.
How do I get a clip onto my phone?
Open the free app, connect to the camera's own Wi-Fi, pick the clip and save it to your phone. Then send it by email or WhatsApp to your insurer or the police.
If someone hits my parked car, will it only catch the aftermath?
No. In parking mode it is filming the whole time, a frame a second, so the car pulling in is on the clip. The moment something bumps your car, it switches to full recording and locks that clip.
Do I need a laptop to get the footage off?
No. The free phone app does it over the camera's own Wi-Fi. If you prefer a computer, the USB card reader in the box takes the card.
Does it record sound?
Yes, by default, so you hear the horn or the bang. Turn it off in the menu or the app any time.
Will it get nicked if I leave it in the car?
It is small and sits behind the mirror, where it is hard to spot from outside. If you are worried, it unclips from the mount in a second and goes in the glovebox.
Is there a battery inside?
No. It has a capacitor instead of a lithium battery, so there is nothing to swell or die in a hot car. A tiny coin cell keeps the time and your settings. It works from -20 °C to 70 °C.
Is there a subscription?
No. The app, the GPS and every feature are free, for as long as you own it.
SD cards
Which SD card do I need?
A microSD card, U3 speed, from 32 to 256GB (it reads up to 512GB). You can add our 64GB or 128GB card when you order, formatted and ready to record.
Do I have to buy your card?
No. Any good U3 card works. Cheap slow cards are the most common reason a dash cam stops recording, so use a decent one and format it in the camera once a month.
How much footage does a card hold?
Roughly 2 to 3 hours of front and rear footage on 64GB, and about twice that on 128GB, before the oldest is recorded over. Locked clips are always kept.
Orders and delivery
How fast will it arrive?
Delivery is free and fully tracked, and the tracking number is emailed the moment your parcel ships. The delivery times are on the shipping policy page.
Where do I track my order?
On the track order page, with the number from your shipping email. The first scan can take a day or so to appear after the email.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Yes, if it has not shipped. Email [email protected] with CANCEL and your order number in the subject as soon as you can. If it has already left, keep the delivery and use the 60-day money-back guarantee instead. You lose nothing.
My address is wrong.
Email us straight away with the order number and the correct address. We can change it any time before it ships.
The 60-day money-back guarantee
How does it work?
Fit it and drive with it for up to 60 days from the day it arrives. If you are not happy, email us with the order number and we send the return instructions. You get a full refund to the original payment method, with no deductions.
Who pays the return postage?
If the camera is faulty, the return is covered and you get all of your money back. If you have simply changed your mind, you cover the return postage.
Does it have to be unused?
No, it can be fitted and used: that is the point of the 60 days. Please keep the box, the cables and the bits that came with it.
The 2-year guarantee
What does the guarantee cover?
The dash cam and the rear camera, for 2 years from the day they arrive. If either stops working in normal use, you get it repaired or replaced, free. No registration, no receipt to keep: your order email is enough.
What is the Lifetime Warranty?
An add-on you can choose when you order. It keeps your guarantee going for as long as you own the camera, with no end date. It covers faults, not accidental damage or theft.
How do I make a claim?
Email a photo or a short video of the fault and your order number. Most claims are settled from that message alone, with a replacement sent out.
Payment
What can I pay with?
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay and Google Pay, through our secure checkout. Your card number is never seen or stored by us.
When am I charged?
The full amount is taken when you order. There are no extra charges after checkout, and delivery is free.
